Links

There are lots of performers who use partial capos, and many of them write about their techniques. Some have have made instructional videos, written articles, or compiled songbooks. If you know of anyone who should be included here, please email us.

Harvey Reid:
Harvey is widely considered the father of the partial capo - he began his partial capo experiments in 1976. He's written extensively about partial capo work - seems that all roads lead back to him. Anybody who says different, write to us.

Mitch Bohannan
Mitch has been very active about his enthusiasm for the Short-Cut. See this video that he made about it, or the forum he moderates at bos-capos.com.

Don Conoscenti:
DonCon's 2002 release "Extremely Live at Eddie's Attic" is a compilation of 20 songs which ALL feature partial and/or multiple capo work.

Janis Ian:
Janis and Milton Kyser have been friends for years - She sawed up our capos long before we ever got around to doing it ourselves.

Adrian Legg:
Adrian's one of the best fingerstyle guys around. The "tunings" page on his website is an education in itself, with a bit of partial capo work thrown in for good measure.

Carrie Newcomer:
A fine singer/songwriter with a gift for creating color on the guitar - thanks in part to her collection of partial capos, some of which cover only two strings.

Willy Porter:
Willy's one of the flashiest partial capo performers on the scene today - and extremely versatile. He can often be seen playing with Short-Cuts and Drop-Ds at the same time.

Chris Proctor:
Chris is a gifted fingerstyle player and composer, who uses partial capo work as a tool to achieve a greater depth of field in his compositions. Chris has an instructional songbook and DVD which show us mortals how it's done.

Cosy Sheridan:
Cosy uses several different capo configurations, in both standard and alternate tunings.

David Wilcox:
David might be the most well-known of the partial capo bunch. His rich guitar work is due in part to his ever-present Kyser Drop-D™. David's Homespun DVD is an education in open tunings and partial capos in conjunction with open tunings.

Andreas Sterner's Capo Museum in Sweden has an interesting history of capos since 1850. There's a section which tells about partial capos, including Shubb, Third Hand, Varichord, and Woodie's G-band.
